Suarez Thanks Team-Mates For Pichichi Award

Suarez

The Uruguay international paid tribute to his Barcelona colleagues after his hat-trick saw him claim the top goalscorer award with 40 strikes.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez paid tribute to his team-mates after scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 win overGranadaon Saturday that saw his side retain the La Liga title.

Suarez claimed the Pichichi – La Liga’s top goalscorer award – as a result of his latest treble, which took him to 40 league goals for the season, five clear of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It’s a unique moment to enjoy,”he said. “I’m happy with everything.
“For the title, the goals, the happiness we’ve given to the fans.”

Suarez added that he wanted to give thanks to all his team-mates for helping him score 53 times in all competitions this season.

“Thanks to everyone because without them I couldn’t have done it,”Suarez said. “Without them, I wouldn’t be in this situation.

“I only had to nudge the ball. They looked for me and I’m grateful for it, thanks to everyone once again.”

Suarez and Barcelona now look ahead to next weekend’s Copa Del Rey final against cup specialists Sevilla as they seek to win the double, but not without some La Liga celebrations first.

“Now we have to think about the cup, but today it’s time to enjoy La Liga,”the Uruguay international said.

“It’s a competition we’ve worked for very hard over the year and in the end, we’ve got our reward.”

Barcelona Had To Win La Liga Twice – Pique

The Camp Nou club won, lost and won La Liga again in a remarkable season, according to the Spain international, who made 30 league appearances this season.

Gerard Pique says Barcelona feel as though they have won La Liga twice this season after they recovered from a bad run to clinch the title on Sunday.

A Luis Suarez hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win over Granada to secure Barca’s sixth domestic crown in eight seasons, with Real Madrid finishing a point behind after their 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Barca suffered three straight defeats in April to surrender a nine-point lead at the top, before winning their final five matches in emphatic style, scoring 24 goals and conceding none.

And Pique, who describes the club’s domestic success since 2009 as”unique”, admits it felt like they had won and lost the title before they were able finally to lift the trophy.

“I’m happy that we keep winning the league. We’re living a unique period. Nobody has won six leagues out of eight,”he said, as quoted by AS.

“Given the circumstances, we have had to win it twice. When we had eight points in our favour, we had it won. Afterwards, with the blip, we lost it, although it still depended on us. And now we’ve come back to win it.”

Pique, who has now won six Liga titles, believes the current generation has established the ultimate winning mentality after a period of pessimism at Camp Nou.

“This league, 20 years ago we wouldn’t have won it because we were so often undone by our own pessimism,”continued the defender.

“But this generation has changed things. We’re a winning team, we’ve shown that we can be trusted, because we ended up winning.”

Barca can clinch a second successive domestic double with a win in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla next week, but Pique insists a failure to triumph at the Vicente Calderon would not detract from their season.

“We don’t need anything,”he said.”Of course it would be better if we won the Copa. Sevilla can beat you in a game, but I think our consistency is magnificent.”

Coach, Luis Enrique Dedicates Title Win To Barcelona Fans

The 46-year-old described himself as a “bore” but was happy to encourage the fans to celebrate his side securing their 24th league title.

Luis Enrique was happy to dedicate Barcelona’s Liga title triumph to the club’s supporters, claiming he is too boring to indulge in the celebrations himself.

Barca completed the defence of their domestic crown with a 3-0 victory over Granada on Sunday, a result which ensured they finished the season a point ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table.

Luis Enrique insisted his side deserved to triumph as a result of their consistency during the campaign and was keen to thank the fans for sticking by the team during their slump in April, when they suffered three defeats in a row to leave their title hopes in doubt.

“I’m a bore. I’ll have to change after 46 years,”the head coach said when asked if he will join in the celebrations. “I’ll remember those who supported us during difficult times. It’s a pleasure to dedicate this title to the fans.”

“The team looked very good,”he continued when asked for his assessment of the match, which was won thanks to a Luis Suarez hat-trick.

“We had to take more risks at 0-0. Once we made it 1-0, we then had to maintain a structure that allowed us to attack the ball and press the opponent. We controlled the transitions and the loose balls. We’re very happy and the fans can go and celebrate.

“Throughout the season we have been at a very high level. This is a prize for regularity and it’s a deserved one. We have managed to overcome difficult times. We’re pleased for the fans, for our families and for the club. Now to celebrate and try to win another title next Sunday.”

Barca’s attentions now turn to the Copa del Rey final with Sevilla next weekend.
